Step by step

  1. Use a fixed training bar or securely locked rack bar rated for bodyweight; test its stability before getting underneath.
  2. Take a shoulder-width overhand grip, step the feet forward and keep the heels planted with the body in a straight line.
  3. Brace your torso and pull the chest toward the bar, drawing the elbows back without lifting the shoulders.
  4. Lower slowly toward long arms while maintaining alignment; step closer and stand up carefully at the end.

Common mistakes

  • Using an unsecured bar or unstable furniture.
  • Sagging at the hips or pulling the head toward the bar.
