Step by step

  1. Stand hip-width apart and hold a light resistance band in front of your upper chest with an overhand grip.
  2. Brace your torso, keep your wrists straight and your elbows nearly extended.
  3. Spread your arms to the sides, bringing the band toward your chest and gently drawing your shoulder blades together.
  4. Return your hands slowly to the starting position while controlling the band's tension.

Common mistakes

  • Bending the elbows to turn the movement into a row.
  • Shrugging, leaning backward or letting the band snap back.
